So finally, as every year, the Mobile World Congress opened its doors in Barcelona. Formally known as 3GSM, the emphasis is been given on all kinds of mobile communication. The former name, including the term “GSM” did not match that any more.
When I arrived on the fair on Sunday, I had the opportunity to see the final preparations going on. Every attendee gets a badge with his name and status, e.g. “Visitor”, “Exhibitor” or “Press”. Those with a star were entitled to be on the fair before it opened. I did not have a star, somehow I sneaked in 😉
In the middle of the fair, between Halls 8 and 2/3/4/5, there is an open space for trucks and open air booths. Nokia Siemens Networks show their solutions in one of the trucks. After all, Spanish weather allows certain outdoor activities even in February.
The fair ground is split in two sections divided by the “Avinguda de Rius i Taulet”. Both parts are connected by bridges, the main part is facing the “Place Espanyol”. The fair ground is not a closed compound. Even the main part is split by a street, the “Avinguda Reina M. Cristina”. It is closed during MWC and serves as outdoor show area (as described above)
