Quite interesting: the Village Connection solution. It is especially aimed at developing countries in Asia and Africa. It is a system which enables local small businesses to create their own customer base. They can create local “village-” zones where the individual user can use make calls or transmit data for a special tariff, e.g. a village flat rate. Standard charges of the cooperating provider apply for outside calls.
This offers opportunities for all three parties: the operator captures the potential, receives a profitable business case with savings in CAPEX and OPEX and widens his subscriber base. The local enterpreneur receives the possibility to become a business owner and contributor to the village community and the phone user gets connected to the outside world. Due to the fact that especially in rural regions in developing countries telephones are placed centrally in gas stations, shops etc, using mobile communication gives the customer privacy to place calls from home.
The system can be supplied with an optional solar panel to ensure the power supply. It consist of a computing unit for administration of the customer base, a base station and an antenna.
