We’re here live at the Mobile WiMAX ecosystem press conference from Mobile World Congress 2009. A 07:00 start, as Tuesday is often the busiest day for customer meetings at the show, so we guess intel was trying to get in early at the start of the day before the various executives split off.
The following spokespeople are talking at the event. In the accompanying photo, they are from the left:
Sean Cai, ZTE; Markku Ellila, Nokia Siemens Networks; Fred Wright, Motorola; Sean Maloney, intel; Tang Xinhong, Huawei; Brett Galloway, Cisco; Tzvika Friedman, Alvarion; Karim el Naggar, Alcatel-Lucent; and the moderator, Caroline Gabriel from Rethink Technology.
It’s the standard format here. Brief opening remarks from Caroline, followed by a two minute statement from each speaker on their position with respect to WiMAX.
Markku opened his comments by stating that “we are committed to WiMAX” and pointing out that we’re the largest radio access provider involvedin the ecosystem. We believe 2009 is an important year for WiMAX and that more roll outs of WiMAX will occur than in previous years.
Some generic comments about the interplay between LTE and WiMAX and how do the providers see the two developing. The most interesting interjection from a Russian operator (checking exactly who) who has rolled out WiMAX and has a few customers who download 64GB a day over WiMAX. So the attractiveness is that it’s here now, and it is very useful.
