On Sunday 29 November, an in-depth article on the company appeared in Finnish daily newspaper Helsingin Sanomat, following an interview with Rajeev. We’re working to see if we can post a complete English translation up for employees to read.
Something that has received a lot of attention is the reference to the company targeting market share. It is always tricky to convey the complexity of an hour long interview in a few hundred word article in the mainstream press. Actually, Petri, the business correspondent of Helsingin Sanomat, does a good job condensing the discussion.
However, in the interview Rajeev was very clear that we had three overall challenges: shaping ourselves to be customer centric, to prioritise momentum in the market and to be a cost leader.
The actual words Rajeev used were: “it is time to move on from that strategy [focusing on profitability and cash] and really to drive for growth; not growth for growth’s sake, but to drive for market share. And that drive comes from deal momentum… And then thirdly we need to prioritise cost leadership.”
Today Nokia is holding its annual briefing – known as a Capital Markets Day – where it talks with investors about the company’s business. As for our involvement, we will be reiterating the strategy the company has outlined to return to growth and that Rajeev was able to share with Helsingin Sanomat.
