The challenges our industry faces are well known and widely discussed. Traffic, complexity, and customer expectations for the ultimate personal gigabyte experience all continue to grow. When we announced the NSN Technology Vision 2020 in June, we wanted to share how we plan to help operators deliver 1 gigabyte of personalized data per user per day by 2020 – and make a profit.
Current Analysis has taken a closer look at our vision and written about it in its August 13th report on “Nokia Solutions & Networks – IP Services Infrastructure.” According to Principle Analyst David Snow: “NSN has created a strong and overarching technology vision justifying its new focus.”
He sees our vision as sending a “Strong message to carriers that it has the necessary competence and solutions to meet challenging future network needs.”
To put the NSN Technology Vision 2020 into practice, we are running many projects with leading global operators and other partners. In several telco cloud proof-of-concept projects, for example, we are exploring the role of cloud application management for complex apps in hybrid cloud environments. Cloud-enabled VoLTE and CEM on Demand content packs are two more examples of how NSN is implementing cloud technology in telco environments
These are just a few of many projects being carried out in the six key areas covered by the Technology Vision, which are to enable 1000 times more capacity, reduce latency to milliseconds, teach networks to be self-aware, personalize the network experience, reinvent telco for the cloud, and flatten total energy consumption.
Current Analysis has looked at these pillars in greater detail and the technologies behind them: “Driven by the “1GB per Day per User” target, NSN’s Technology Vision 2020 successfully highlights the significance and strategic direction of the company’s IMS, SDM, OSS and CEM portfolios alongside those of its mobile broadband and professional services.”
“With our Technology Vision 2020, NSN is well on track to shape the future of mobile broadband with mobile networks that can deliver one gigabyte of personalized data per user per day — and deliver it profitably,” says Volker Held, who is head of Industry Landscape Marketing at NSN. “Our hands-on approach to innovation and strong investment in the relevant R&D, combined with close collaboration with customers and the entire ecosystem, are already yielding tangible results in many areas such as cloud.”
