Imagine downloading a typical two hour movie in eight seconds or downloading a 45 minute TV show in about one second. Or, how about downloading a friend’s vacation video clip in a fraction of a second? Yes, that is what you can do with 1.3Gbps downlink throughput.
On Wednesday, Oct 31, NSN and Sprint showcased what the future might hold through a live demo of 1.3 Gbps downlink throughput at Sprint’s Silicon Valley lab. The TDD LTE-Advanced demonstration was one of several highlights of the day that also included NSN’s selection as a TDD LTE partner for Sprint’s large-scale roll-out and the operator’s announcement of its Sprint Spark technology.
NSN holds the world speed record (including 1.6 Gbps), and we were excited to work with Sprint to show first-hand their potential to surpass wireless speeds of any U.S. network provider using commercial gear and TDD LTE spectrum.
For the live demo, NSN used its commercial Flexi Multiradio 10 Base Station, which included our high bandwidth TDD LTE 8-pipe radio along with 60MHz of Sprint’s TDD LTE spectrum and LTE-Advanced features.
It was an eventful day and our demo with Sprint is another testament to NSN’s TDD LTE innovation and commercialization expertise. We are proud to be working with Sprint for their TDD LTE deployment to help them provide increased speeds and capacity and a great mobile broadband experience for their customers.
