With 11% market share plus another single digit share from our partner also selected by China Mobile, NSN won the largest non-Chinese vendor share in the recent massive TD-LTE tender. NSN got selected by China Mobile in 17 provinces in China including 9 out of top 10 provinces ranked by GDP. In terms of population, the 17 provinces in which NSN was chosen house 67% of China’s population.
With this deal, NSN also successfully extended its 4G footprint into more than 35 of China’s mega cities. Under the contract, NSN will supply radio access network (RAN) and evolved packet core technology and expand China Mobile’s core networks. “We are delighted to become one of the top 3 vendors in the overall 2G, 3G and 4G market for China Mobile”, said Markus Borchert, President of Greater China Region at NSN. “We appreciate China Mobile’s recognition of our 15 years’ pioneering of TD technology that no other non-Chinese vendor could second. With our recent TD-LTE deal wins with Optus and Sprint, NSN has further driven the global market development of TD-LTE. We now have TD-LTE customers on all continents with the exception of Antarctica. These are strong proof points that we have the capabilities, commitment and scale to make TD-LTE a success for China Mobile and globally.”
Last week, Markus Borchert also presented TD-LTE at the 9th Sino-EU Business Summit in Beijing as a success story of Sino-European collaboration in innovation, technology and market development. This resonated well with the political leaders, China’s Premier Li Keqiang and EU President Jose Manuel Barroso, which highlighted their objective to extend the cooperation and grow the China-EU trade volume to 1 trillion USD by 2020.
