I enjoyed a new activity at this year’s Mobile World Congress (MWC). Our Flexi Zone Controller demonstration clearly had the X-factor, attracting long lines of positively surprised visitors. In fact, we witnessed so many people saying “Wow!” that we started to count how often it was uttered during each session. Visitors left convinced that we were showing something unique and unmatched in the industry and many requested a trial of their own.
But the wow-effect wasn’t limited to just the Controller: our entire Flexi Zone solution drew praise. Visitors loved our sleek new NSN Indoor Pico Base Station, which, despite its diminutive size, is the industry-leading indoor Pico with full macro parity – meaning it has the same capacity and features as macro-cellular base stations. Another eye-opener was that the base station can use a building’s existing ethernet cabling to interconnect all the different elements of the solution, eliminating the cost of new cabling required by competing solutions.
Amazing what you can do in 5 minutes
When we showed how easy it is to convert installed micro/pico base stations into access points to form a cluster and meet growing demand over a hot zone, visitors were even more impressed. They especially seemed to like that it takes less than five minutes to create a fully configured and optimized access point. Scalability has never been so easy.
Analysts were also quick to notice the action, with Current Analysis saying: “NSN’s combination of Flexi Zone and Liquid Applications made it one of the more interesting and novel small-cell product introductions at MWC 2014.” Likewise from ABI Research: “With a vast range of products, features and services for both licensed small cells and carrier Wi-Fi, NSN is a leader in small cells innovation“
We have more to share on our small cell evolution here.
