Congratulations to the top 10 “Inventors of the Year 2013” from the Networks business of Nokia! High quality and a continuous generation of inventions are very important to sustain the leading edge of innovation in a technology-driven business such as ours.
Nokia strongly believes in encouraging the efforts of individuals and teams in submitting new invention disclosures that subsequently result in patents and enhance the value of our business. In order to recognize and applaud inventors with the highest number of invention disclosures accepted for filing new patent applications each year, the Networks business of Nokia celebrates the annual “Inventor of the Year Award”.
This year, the top ten “Inventor of the Year” award winners were invited from their respective countries to join an award ceremony at our headquarters in Espoo, Finland. The recognized inventors are associated with a total of approximately 1000 invention disclosures and more than 100 essential patents granted. We’re proud of all of our inventors out there who set a great example and inspire many others through their work.
And speaking of which, Nokia launched an open call to enter “The Nokia Open Innovation Challenge” earlier this spring. The challenge offered an opportunity to enter ideas around two themes: telco cloud and colossal data analytics, but any solution worth merit was accepted and will be considered for partnering, funding, further coaching or joint solution development. The winners gain access to some of the principal movers and shakers who are poised to shape, and maybe even disrupt, the future of the telecom industry!
The response has been overwhelming, with close to 100 submissions. After intensive weeks of judging by a jury comprised of 70+ cross-functional experts representing venture capitalists, innovation experts, consultants, service providers, academia and Nokia leaders, we have selected the top 20 to proceed to the next round. Following this round, the top 6 will be invited to present their ideas at a grand finale event on July 2 at Menlo Park, California, where two winners will be announced.
Stay tuned here for more innovation, inspiration and perspiration at Nokia.
