It doesn’t take a crystal ball to see that network operations in 2020 will look very different than they do today. The telco cloud and virtualized network functions are transforming the landscape with scalable capacity so that unpredictable data growth will be manageable and service launches can be rolled out spontaneously.
As we move in that direction, we see operators building their Service Operations Centers (SOC) with customer experience management (CEM) at the heart to help ensure LTE or LTE-Advanced roll-outs will be supported with the additional resources and operational expertise needed. On top of this, the uptake of network sharing means that Network Operations Centers will be consolidated. That’s a lot of moving and shaking. So that’s where the magic of Build-Operate-Transfer, or “BOT” comes in. It provides operators with the expertise to make this transformation as smooth as possible.
The ABC’s of BOT
Nokia’s Managed Services provides Build-Operate-Transfer offerings. In an agreed time period, Nokia will build up the new platforms and solutions, operate these for an agreed length of time – usually one or two years – to make sure all works seamlessly, after which all people, tools and processes are transferred to the operator. It’s “expertise in a box” to make sure operators can build up future-proof operations quickly and benefit from a pool of qualified resources.
BOT for Service Management
Let’s take a closer look at BOT for a Service Operations Center. About 75% of operators don’t have a SOC in place,* yet for the majority (77%**), it’s the key operational investment. Some 67% of operators believe they don’t have the expertise in house to build a Service Operations Center.***Service Quality Management is an emerging discipline that operators are placing in the SOC, often co-located with the Network Operations Center (NOC). Service Quality Management focuses on pro-active monitoring and managing of services across networks, including traditional, next-generation voice and messaging services as well as over-the-top services.
BOT for LTE
For a flawless rollout of LTE, LTE-Advanced, or IP-based LTE, operators can benefit from additional resources and expertise.Nokia’s Managed Services has provided build-operate-transfer to many customers globally . It has been a popular solution given the direct access to skilled personnel who can either train existing employees or join the local team at the end of the project.
Network Sharing? BOT for NOC
Many operators around the world are starting to share their networks. It’s the most effective way to reduce costs while dealing with the ever-increasing traffic. But what do they do with a plethora of Network Operations Centers that both operators already have in place? How can they transform them into one efficiently working NOC? That’s where BOT for NOC comes in. Nokia’s Managed Services has already proven to achieve excellent transformation results for the world’s first as well as the world’s largest network sharing deals.
BOT for Telco cloud
The biggest transformation of all is perhaps for the telco cloud. Nokia’s CloudWise solution helps operators figure out how to transform their operations specifically for the telco cloud. From Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) to software-defined networking (SDN), we help you define the right strategy to match your needs.
