What has Santa got in his sack for you this Christmas? A shiny new smartphone? The latest 4G connected tablet?
With access to the unlimited possibilities of the Internet, you won’t lack for entertainment. Christmas is one of the busiest times for data downloads for many operators as subscribers take the time to relax and catch up on their favorite TV, movies and other content. They also send and receive a lot of text messages and skype friends and family they won’t be seeing over the holidays.
But whatever you unwrap on the big day, and whomever you send season’s greetings to, spare a thought for the people behind the scenes who make it all happen. Even in the festive season, this group of dedicated professionals is ensuring all is calm and bright in the online world.
And it’s not hard to understand the need for such efforts: The average LTE network has over 15 million parameters and over 100 million counters measuring the behavior of network elements. Have you ever seen a mobile network operations center? I can tell you that the control rooms familiar from space movies can’t hold a candle to them.
The everyday well-being of the world’s mobile networks is in the hands of our customers’ O&M personnel, as well as our Care Managers and Engineers who support them in their critical work. These experts have impressive professional excellence, commitment and passion to take care of network health in a continuously evolving high-tech environment.
Most multivendor network performance degradations that operators face stem from sheer complexity: simultaneous use of multiple technologies, several technical layers, changing configurations, and a multitude of parameters. Also important are preventive actions, personnel with up-to-date training, and an understanding of the increasing role of O&M.
That’s why we put such an emphasis on care and making sophisticated technology simple where Nokia’s unrelenting focus on innovation and quality is paying off big time. But care is not just for Christmas – it’s a constant partnership with our customers to keep their networks looking and behaving as good as the day they were unwrapped.
The fact is that networks don’t quite yet self-heal and self-manage. They still need daily care from people who understand how it all works today and tomorrow. And we do it smartly with technology that thinks ahead: preventive and predictive data analysis and actions enable our Care teams to ensure the network performs at its best even under the highest load during the festive season. After all, it’s people who develop the artificial intelligence and write the algorithms, and it’s cheaper to take care of health than recover from sickness ─ to prevent rather than fix.
So at this special time of the year, let’s give thanks also to those who ensure we all have enjoyable time and stay connected with our family and friends where ever they are.
Did you know you can watch Santa greeting visitors from all over the world at his workshop live here on Santa Television or UStream TV during the opening hours of the Santa Claus Office at the Arctic Circle.
